Good we reporting on @Mastodon here, including asking critical, reflective questions like this:

“If so many people are expecting a Twitter-like experience, maybe it’s time for us to question our expectations about what social media is, what it can do, and whether we even want it in the first place.”

The Future of the Internet Will Be Nothing Like Twitter, and That’s a Good Thing

Mastodon is showing users a future beyond Elon Musk’s garbage fire, but there’s still a long road ahead.

@austinkocher @Vice @Mastodon Thanks for posting this. I thought it summarized the Twitter vs Mastodon issues pretty well. I came here understanding it was different from Twitter and I am happy that it is different … but I can see that many people are expecting a Twitter-like experience. I’m not sure people realize how much they have been spoon-fed by the algorithms.

There’s a lot of hype about musk taking down the ship right now, but he didn’t make twitter what it is. I feel fortunate to have found this place and although it’s only been a few days what I’ve observed is that it’s a place built on kindness and not greed. #ThanksFediverse
@austinkocher @Mastodon @Vice I just realized this morning that Mastodon feels like a series of early Burning Man camps, where you have a home base but are free to wander in and out of other camps as you like.

Mastodon seems to be a lot more polite and considerate. I am starting to adapt and enjoy this.
