I just saw that today is the 6th anniversary of Sharon Jones' passing. What an incredible loss for the world that was.

But I take inspiration from the fact that she didn't release her first album until she was 40.

When we tell ourselves it's too late in life to start something it's almost always a lie. That's just the fear talking.

She was a remarkable musician who is dearly missed.

@drewphish grateful i got to see her a few times, a true inspiration
@korbermite I never had the privilege 😞

@drewphish have you heard last year’s “Super Soul Revue” live release from Daptone? a beautiful little sample of the type of magical evening she & the crew could conjure

she really was the centre of a whole little universe

@korbermite @drewphish I also was fortunate enough to see her play live a few times, and even meet her once. A true force of nature. 💗
@drewphish she was an incredible talent and super nice person. Met her at the premiere of her documentary. Couldnt have been more gracious
@drewphish a Legend. A Queen. And, as you correctly note, an inspiration.
@drewphish I have a great video of her going OFF about John McCain that I took at an Obama fundraiser show. Thanks for the reminder to go dig that out.
@drewphish found a #SharonJones photo from that night. Will let you know when I excavate the video from some ancient hard drive
@drewphish just an absolute legend. Wild that much time has passed.
@drewphish Sharon Jones’s is responsible for a whole era of diy music, an unbelievable legend, and thank you Daptone records, which wouldn’t exist without her.
@drewphish For me, the takeaway is more about persisting with your calling or what you love. While she may not have released an album until she was 40, she certainly didn't START at 40. Definitely an inspiration, though!
@drewphish she opened for #TTB at #RedRocks around 2015, it rained during her set, not only did the band keep on playing, she was splashing around in puddles on the stage just rocking #SoulSista
