Does anyone else feel kind of sad when they see friends who, while openly recognizing the toxicity that #birdsite was built upon, can’t seem to move past it? Does it sort of feel like you’re leaving people behind for bigger and better?? Like escaping Plato’s cave??? No??? #Friday #thoughts
@markhenick I see it as, you're moving for your self and to be in a better place, if/when they're ready to come over they'll finally reconnect. I left FB and Instagram a few years ago and was concerned i'd lose 'friends' but found that wasn't the case long term.
@73rdnemesio I left Twitter like last winter, and it makes me kind of sad that some people still seem to think that they can’t have a virtual social life without it. It’s like they still don’t realize that there’s a whole WORLD outside that one place
@markhenick I feel like too many are addicted to the daily drama fest, Each time I Read someone say 'Mastodon is antiviral' I read it as they don't know remember/know how to hold a conversation anymore. Dunking on people here isn't as 'easy' as it is there. But I have had more meaningful (even just nonsense for fun) conversations here than I have had there in the recent years.
@73rdnemesio It’s incredibly refreshing. Even just the lack of ads alone is disarming.
@markhenick @73rdnemesio So much performative outrage/dopamine addicts over there.
