@BrownsAstro wow!! I just had to go check the prices because I couldn’t believe the zwo would be that expensive! I’ve always gone for Altair cameras myself and found them beautifully made! I know the owners of the company, Ian and Nick who are great. As for comparing the cameras they are practically the same! Really all that is different is the colour 😅 so wow that red paint they’re using must be pricey! I’ve always been really happy with my 26c . (These aren’t all mine btw!)
@astrostace @BrownsAstro if you were going to suggest a good starting versatile deep sky camera that doesn’t obliterate the bank account what would you say among some of these? I’m sticking with cheap while I build skills-using a Svbony for planetary and an 11 year old DSLR as I get started on deep sky for now, but curious what would be next intermediate step!
@ryderdavid @BrownsAstro what scope do you have? Also you can get fan cooled and Tec cooled cameras. It’s always worth saving extra and going for the tec model if you can!
@astrostace @BrownsAstro right now I have a Celestron C6 (nexstar 6se on an AVX EQ mount), so f/10, FL 1500mm, but use a .63 reducer with it for deep sky (in principle; haven’t started trying deep sky yet this season—was waiting for Orion to start riding at reasonable hours, going to get cracking in early December after thanksgiving travel)
@astrostace @BrownsAstro debating getting Svbony’s little 70 or 80mm doublet as a starter refractor at some point in the next year
@BrownsAstro @ryderdavid I think a small refractor is a great idea. It’ll make things a lot easier for you. Plus those lovely wide field views
@astrostace @BrownsAstro thinking of selling some less used gear to grab one! Question—a h alpha filter—is this useful at all for nebulae if you’re working with a color DSLR? I have seen some things mention it being useful as a luminosity layer in post processing—is that real or only worth it for mono shooting?
I currently have a UHC filter by Svbony I use nearly all the time as it claims to cut LP (I basically entirely shoot in Washington DC) #astrophotography #astrodon
