A special counsel, Jack Smith, will oversee the criminal investigations into the purloining of national defense info but Trump & Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection. Smith is a former chief prosecutor for the special court in The Hague.

I write about coups and war crimes for a living. I think the choice of Jack Smith is fascinating one as it takes a certain skill set to prosecute at The Hague. In a way, he is particularly well-suited to overseeing investigations into Jan 6 insurrection.

@HawaiiDelilah - very good point. I’m disturbed by the number of experts who think the IC was a bad idea. I’m no expert, but at least there is one degree of separation between Garland and the appearance of political motivation- which is BS. Either way, I think this is a sign that indicting the FG is possible - especially on the Obstruction charge re:MAL Docs.
