Hey #writingCommunity -

What happens when you get stumped while writing, and you think, "I wonder if there's somebody I could reach out to that might be able to help?"

Well, don't look at me. I'm in the same boat! So, I looked up the hashtag #writingCoach and found a few people in here. There aren't a lot here yet, but I'm sure they're interested in chatting. Say hi!

@MargotKinberg

@literarylaura

@Jenichappelle

I don't know these folks at all. I just found them!

@jovial_cynic@mastodon nice to meet you and thanks for the shout out! I’m always happy to answer whatever questions I can, and I have some free resources for writers at the link in my bio. Happy writing!

@Jenichappelle thanks! I'll look over the site later today.

Right now, I'm wrenching on a rewrite for a story I started this year. I built a decent setting and had some plot-moving external conflicts, but I didn't do enough with internal conflict to make the character interesting to me. So... back tracking.

Do you know of any good exercises for developing strong internal conflicts?

@jovial_cynic hmm not so much an exercise as some concepts and resources. Look into “emotional wound” and “goal, motivation, conflict.” These are really the heart of internal conflict and how they work with external conflict to create a story that really challenges and feels personal to your character
