Regarding the announcement that a special counsel will be appointed in the DOJ probes: I never had strong feelings one way or the other, but I did find
Randall Eliason's arguments persuasive.

https://www.sidebarsblog.com/p/mr-attorney-general-its-time-to-appoint

He published this hours before the news hit about a special counsel being appointed.

Mr. Attorney General, It's Time to Appoint a Special Counsel

The regulations and the public interest demand it

@Teri_Kanefield This is Trump’s plan by announcing his presidential candidacy, to make it more difficult for the DOJ to indict him. I hope the special counsel works, but it’s unfortunate that charges were not brought sooner.

@DidiQ @Teri_Kanefield Do you want them to indict him for the sake of it or do you want an indictment thats going to produce a guilty verdict from 12 jurors?

The fact that people think he hasn’t indicted him for any reason other than the case isn’t ready, don’t understand how this all works

@DidiQ

Have you seen my FAQs?

https://terikanefield.com/all-new-doj-investigation-faqs/

while I don't address your question directly, bringing charges sooner would change nothing.

After charges are brought, the process is still a lengthy one. So charges last month would not have made this unnecessary

@Teri_Kanefield thanks, I did read your FAQs, and I appreciate your legal expertise on this matter. It is demoralizing, however, to see Trump escape accountability for not just more recent crimes, but others like the crimes Mueller uncovered. And at this moment, I don’t feel hopeful that accountability is coming with another special counsel. I hope I’m wrong.
@DidiQ @Teri_Kanefield I also believe that Mueller’s investigation was shortened by then Atty General Bill Barr. The biggest difference here is that the special counsel will not be starting from scratch. They will be taking the existing cases/investigations (yes plural) from the DOJ and working them independently
@Teri_Kanefield Professor Kanefield you know anything about Zack Smith?
@rfarrfan @Teri_Kanefield Jack Smith is unbiased, thorough, and FAST. He won't be starting from scratch, he'll just be picking up where everyone else left off, and he'll be able to bring together the separately siloed investigations. If anything this will make things go much faster.
@PhoenixWomanMN @Teri_Kanefield Thank you. I've read up on him and he seems like a superb choice. I was just wondering what Professor Kanefield personally thought about him. Or maybe she knows him personally.
@Teri_Kanefield I simply don’t understand why Garland waited this long to do so. Nothing has changed the past year that would make him do it now, right? Waiting this long has delayed the process even further.

@SloanLA

The article I cited answers your question

@Teri_Kanefield Trump running was inevitable. Waiting until he declared simply delays from a team being built and moving forward. That’s why I don’t understand waiting.
@SloanLA This isn't true at all. Read the memo that Garland released and what he said. Earlier I linked to a piece by law professor Randall Elliason.
@Teri_Kanefield Barbara McQuade seems to think it’s a good idea. And so did Harry Litman. So maybe we’ll be OK.
@erindickins @Teri_Kanefield I don’t know what to think because a lot of lawyers were saying it was too late to bring on a SC but now they are saying it is not a bad thing. I have flashbacks about Mueller. We had hopes for his investigation to yield results. I am taking a wait & see approach.
@Teri_Kanefield after reading this I think it’s important that I read it. A reminder that no matter how badly we want results it matters how we get them. Even after the f*ckery it’s important not to become a clone of it. If we stand for the rule of law we have to abide by it.
@Teri_Kanefield
Some folks I respect on Twitter say this is a way to "slow roll" the whole issue. But I don't know enough to know if that makes sense. I hope you will address that at some point. Your thinking helps me sort out what is a real concern.
@Teri_Kanefield Thank you for the info. So happy you're here. I value your thoughts and clarity.
@Teri_Kanefield Compelling arguments. I really hope this works. I know I’m not the only one who is exhausted from the years of waiting, organizing, & protesting for accountability. No one is supposed to be above the law.

@Teri_Kanefield  :eagle: ⚖️ I can see why you found Eliason persuasive. So do I. Hard to see how this actually benefits TFG.

Hey, here's an idea: how's about we all consider that Garland et. al. actually know what they're doing? "It's a crazy idea but it just might work!"

@Teri_Kanefield As a layperson, I certainly felt some frustration with the announcement of Special Counsel Jack Smith. The article you've shared has assuaged some of my concerns about potential delays. However, I get it. Patience is a virtue. A Special Counsel is likely the correct path forward, but a part of me just wants to get the orange bull out of our metaphorical porcelain shop of a nation. Thank you, ma'am. You're among those I consider to be the saner minds that I hope prevail.
DOJ Investigation into the January 6 attack FAQs - Teri Kanefield

I initially wrote this in March of 2022 and I have been periodically updating it since. The March 2022 version is here. For some reason, not all the links are showing up as a contrasting color. I stopped updating this after indictments were brought, but please read if you believe any of the following: The […]

@Teri_Kanefield I have, and it bears repeat visits as reminders when the cognitive dissonance between my hot-take desire to see some bad folks go down (partially fueled by overheated media narratives, to be sure), and the more rational parts of my own mind recognizing the enormity of the task DOJ has been tackling at a relatively rapid pace. Still working to implement more from your "What To Do" page in my own life and encouraging others to do the same. You're a big help, ma'am. Thank you.

@Teri_Kanefield
Substitute 'voting population' for 'country' here and it might be correct

"I think this is only partially true. There’s probably 40-45% of the country who won’t accept any prosecution of Trump as legitimate, no matter what the circumstances. And there’s probably another 40-45% who can’t understand why the guy isn’t in jail already and will readily accept any criminal charges as being fully justified."

@Teri_Kanefield

I found my favorite “social media” lawyer. 👋

@Teri_Kanefield I was against it at first, but now find compelling arguments in favor. It seems like we might get results in time now.
