Most fediverse servers are run by one or a very small handful of people. They don't have the resources to scale like Twitter. Everyone piling into the same few instances is going to bring those instances down. That's why you're experiencing performance issues. It's also not really in the spirit of fediverse -- it's supposed to be distributed.
@taylorlorenz@huslage@adamdavidson - All the servers are interconnected so you see all the same people and posts no matter which one you use. That's the whole point.
@taylorlorenz@huslage@adamdavidson the server admins are volunteers funded by donations, does being here vs on a server WaPo subsidizes on your behalf mean you're costing them time & money (as they are not selling ads against the engagement you create)? I assumed that was the case in an earlier post, but I deleted it, because actually I don't know but it would be interesting to find out.
