Mastodon is an interesting idea and I'm happy to give it a shot and connect with folks here.

That said, I see some adoption issues:

1. The IDs are way too long. I went from 10 to 33 chars.
2. How do we manage duplicate IDs? What happens when someone uses my handle on a different Mastodon server?
3. How does verification work?
4. What happens when a server goes down? Is it easy to move to another server without starting over?
5. All this makes it too complicated for widespread adoption.

@ActiveNick

1. People are regularly dealing with longer e-mail address, I agree it's worse but strictly speaking it's not a big issue

2. Does it matters ? You're ActiveNick from gamedev.place, it's just a bit different

3. You link back from your website to your account, I think it's better than a centralized authority

4. if the server is down forever you're screwed, otherwise switching server is a 2 buttons ordeal AFAIK 🤔

5. I honestly think people are painting it harder than it is

@ActiveNick These are all great questions, interested in any answers!
