A few tips for those who are new to the Fediverse and would like to preserve the culture of accessibility.
1) Put Hashtags at the end of posts. If you put them mid-post, screenreaders say "Hashtag" every time.
2) Put alt-text in all your images so those using screenreaders can get your jokes or a sense of your content.
3) Use Camel Case with hashtags; capitalize mutli-word hashtags.

#Accessibility #CamelCase #AltText

As a caveat: a different person using a screen reader sais that they preferred in line hashtags used judiciously because it gave them a better sense of when a post had ended. So, some variation in what works best for folks.
@AlexHaist Yes, I've seen comments that inline hashtags aren't worrisome: https://mastodon.social/@krisnelson@legal.social/109351256308109786 ... When you compose a post, you don't have to repeat words from the post as hashtags again at the end (e.g. poetry and #poetry)
@AlexHaist Seems to me this is good advice for all social media.
@AlexHaist how do I add alt-text to an image? is it something I have to add on the metadata or on my post itself?
@miau Every app or website is a little different, but basically you upload the image and then click on "edit" wherever it shows up. If you want screenshots for a specific app can do.
@AlexHaist Thank you. I will do all three going forward.
@AlexHaist Excellent! Didn't know about Number 1. Thanks
@Rogie My pleasure. I am learning a lot of new accessibility stuff myself with Mastodon.
@AlexHaist I learned lots about accessibility from this page: https://fedi.tips/mastodon-and-fediverse-accessibility-tips/ The whole site is about mastodon and how to use it. I read it all in about 45 mins and i'm a bit of a thicky. Well worth a read.

@Rogie Thank you! I'll give it a read.
