I’m ok with this so far. First it’s not as addicting as Twitter and second the convos are pretty innocuous.
@johnbiggs I wonder what the relationship between the more addicting nature of Twitter conversations and their (ostensibly) less innocuous...itity?...is.
@jonathonbarton I think Twitter became performative - performative rage, humor, sexiness, etc. - while this is very much what Twitter once was - smart and sometimes boring chats and status updates.
@johnbiggs I could see that, yeah. With a small side dish of "isn't all social media performative at some level?" if only in the sense that the most boring post could be "bait in the water" for making connections with new, unknown people... (kind of exactly like this. :D )
@jonathonbarton the performative aspects of Twitter got far worse as more people came on and the dopamine hit of a viral post became widely known. I’m sure we’ll find ourselves in the same position here one day but maybe the real social media is the friends we made long the way!
