@mastodonusercount I wonder how long the spike will be this time around.

@JoernPaulini I think the spike of today was this with 13K new users few hours ago

@cassolotl Thank you!
@Shy_sakura_ I've just learned that (2) is from a parody account, which is probably not a good sign for Twitter's longevity - they can't just pay the guy to come back and sort the doors out, haha
@mastodonusercount I looked yesterday and thought "it's slowing down" – well, *something* is definitely slowing down, but it's not Mastodon :)
@mastodonusercount
Has been glitchy and slow today. I guess the influx is causing that?
@BobC7000 @mastodonusercount It depends of the instance you're on.
Mastodon.social is a big one, the little ones don't have issues.
@marud @mastodonusercount
Would be fantastic if switching instances was much simpler and without losing your posts etc. Should work seamlessly.
@BobC7000 The micro-blogging part of the fediverse never was around having an endless conservation of toots/notes/whatever_the_term_your_system_uses.

Masto and microblogging on the fediverse on a more global scale is around the human interactions, not being a journal of everything that was wrote. Services like blogs are more prone to that. Don't forget that for a service like this one it's also lots of datas that are hard to host, as they cost a lot of money to the admins. That's why some instances have policies that allow to automatically delete posts older than X days.

Migration by itself on Mastodon specifically is quite fine (just create another account somewhere else and switch something on your parameters).
