So far, it seems that #COP27 is an even bigger failure than COP26:
💀 25% more fossil fuel lobbyists than COP26 - the largest delegate group
💀 best outcome might be avoiding backslide from COP26
💀 even weaker language on ending fossil fuel subsidies
💀 sponsored by Coca Cola
These people need a firewall against the fossil fuel industry and they need to bring in climate activists especially youth and Global South activists. Otherwise it will remain a farce.
What kind of a climate meeting makes no attempt to phase out oil and fossil gas, when fossil fuels in general are the main cause of the crisis? And loss and damage numbers are inching up toward $100 million - 0.01% what US spends on military in a year

@ClimateHuman

I wonder Peter if what I believe is the global climate change community's over focus on adaptation and resilience is allowing the mitigation can to continually be kicked down the road. The fossil industry can then play this to their advantage with unwitting cooperation of sustainability enthusiasts & uninformed decision makers.
With so many #SDG's many academics and activists get confused between relative priorities. #SDG7 is now highest priority. Bar none!

@arill @ClimateHuman that may be because SDGs are pretty meaningless, and they were already unattainable right at their inception. We were at 1 C heating already at that point. This is the 27th COP, Big Oil has had a seat for too long. If we want to avoid complete system collapse, BiG Oil, and policy makers with heavy stakes in Big Oil can no longer sit with us.
