I just went down into the cellar of my old stone house in rural France to get some white cooking wine for a dinner I’m making, and there was the cutest little bat fluttering around. I was as discreet as I could be and left the door open. Could be what is called here a “pipistrelle”, cutest bat name ever. #bats #cellars #france #pipistrelle

@mirakamdar I'm impressed. There is a chance, slight though it might be, that I would have reacted differently. And by 'differently', I mean it might have included screaming like a child and a broom.

Might.

@LACanuck We're not talking Vampire or giant fruit bats. It was a tiny, scared thing -- smaller than a sparrow. They eat mosquitoes. No reports of rabies around here in the local bat population. I just tried not to scare it and get out and leave it in peace. My mother grew up in an old Victorian house and loved as a child feeling the silent swoop of a bat over her bed in the night and the whine of a mosquito suddenly cease. Where I got my lack of fear from, I'm sure.
@mirakamdar I've been recently swooped on by a magpie. A silently swooping bat isn't a reassuring thought. 😆
@LACanuck Ah, but the magpie was swooping at you. A little bat doesn’t care about you, except to flee if it can if you get too close.
