Love it when people who clearly do not have seen the CW discussion among POC tell me, a POC, what we've been talking about.
People want a culture of consent here but POC have not consented to racism. And now white people want to be able to opt into seeing how POC experience racism? That is the definition of white comfort. No, this is not gonna fly with me.

"But what about other POC?"

But that's not what's being discussed. What's being discussed is white people wanting POC to CW racism. Remember that axes of power/privilege matter in these discussions.

I am absolutely livid that someone on Mastodon would want me to consider an "opt in" culture for white people to see racism. White people, on average and given the option, would NOT opt in. That's what white privilege does.
@amber I agree. Are there any spaces that do NOT have "opt-in" culture for white people though? As you say, white people always have the option to opt out from seeing/discussing racism.
@s_bosbach These types of spaces need to be constructed and moderated. The best practice is anti-racist white people and some BIPOC people (who will be compensated) to set expectations, consequences, and hold to them. That's the only way anyone would learn.
@amber That sounds super productive. As you say though, white folks who want to avoid such spaces will always be able to do so.
