Your local server admin appreciates when you setup Automatic Post Deletion in your account settings to save on storage space. One of the options in the settings is to preserve posts that you favorite. So while it might be a bit embarrassing on the #birdsite to be Liking your own tweets it seems quite useful to fav your own toots that you want to save from auto-delete on #mastodon

Shortcut: your.instance/statuses_cleanup

@profcarroll This is a thing I worry about. I like the idea that there's an archive, and I don't want to worry about deciding in advance what will be important in the future. How much of the cost of running an instance is storage? What can we as users do to help defray the costs?
@mattblaze We’re at 39% disk capacity atm and I still need to observe how our host automates storage mgmt over time. We can easily add-on another 4 threads/4GB DB RAM/40GB storage for $10/mo. as needed. So far seems quite manageable at our current scale (Constellation with ElasticSearch $49/mo). Member donations so far have been incredibly generous. We’re almost funded for a year at the current capacity. All kind of amazing tbh.
@profcarroll I hope we develop strong norms about providing financial and other support to your local instance.
@mattblaze Indeed, a work in progress. We could benefit from a Fiscal Sponsor at OpenCollective willing to sponsor us to formalize it without the overhead of setting up my own entity etc
