I'm seeing some "selling" toots popping up here. This could be the thin edge of the wedge. Lets keep this place social. We all have something to sell/promote - probably be best to keep those posts to the other social spaces. Just a thought.

@johnmee I've just posted a question on this as I genuinely don't know what the consensus is.

Completely understand that people don't want ads on here.

But what about artists including links to their websites (which may have work for sale), or promoting stuff which supports a charity / non profit?

@onlyindevon I'm ok with them including a website in their bio (I have) or pinned post but don't really like the idea of promoting individual products/services on the timeline. As I said, it could be the thin end of the wedge. Before we know it, the place could have adverts or self promotions every few toots. Only my opinion though.

@johnmee @onlyindevon

What about a photographer who shares loads of photos and occasional tips on their blog but once in a while has a workshop they'd like to invite folks to join in?

#AskingForAFriend

@ewen @onlyindevon I suppose it's all about balance. You'll see users on the other spaces that use it totally as an advertising medium.
I keep a blog too - I haven't tooted about it yet. But if I were to, I'd be happy enough to keep it to 1 toot per week.
@onlyindevon @johnmee @ewen I’d hate to see this turn into the NFT hell that twitter has become but at the same time I’d like to post links to work or blog posts from time to time, same as I’d like to see the same from others. It’s about balance, I think.
@kimaldis @onlyindevon @ewen My exact thoughts too.
I got caught up in the NFT shitshow for a while. It took over my timeline in a week and started encroaching onto my contacts timelines too. It took me weeks to get out of it and clean up my timeline.
@johnmee @onlyindevon @ewen commercial posts should have a commercial warning tag?
@onlyindevon @ewen @johnmee with an exempt for non profits?
