@RichardJMurphy i hoped they would scrap it during the pandemic when people weren’t travelling and they didn’t know for how long it would continue. The ridiculous financial cost apart, the destruction of huge swathes of beautiful countryside is an unforgivable crime imo. Scrap it now FFS!

@weaniejeanie53 @RichardJMurphy Agreed. Our local MP (M.Fabricant) has come out against it and for perhaps the first time in my life, I find myself agreeing with him.
There is now no excuse for continuing with a massive vanity project that will be obsolete even before it starts to operate.
Spend the money on repairing local public transport (buses and local trains) and making them affordable enough to be the preferred way of getting from A to B (and C and D and E…).

@hughashton @RichardJMurphy good grief! Who’d have thought it?! Yes that’s exactly what it is I think, a vanity project with no real need for it, although I’m not in the area it breaks my heart to see what they’ve done, destroying ancient woodland when we have so little left, they should be prosecuted for environmental vandalism.

@weaniejeanie53 @RichardJMurphy I haven't even touched on the environmental vandalism – even in our area, South Staffs, which isn't an area of outrstanding natural beauty, the destruction has been terrible. And now we're told it won't start operations until 2035! FFS – #KillTheBeast

@hughashton @RichardJMurphy I’m sure it’s beautiful even if not outstanding. 2035?! Jesus wept, that’s just ridiculous, they built the pyramids by hand in a shorter time. I hope they see sense, I think they’ve dropped some of it, did I read there’s a large tunnel that’s been abandoned? If the economy is in such a dire state how can they justify continuing with it. 🤬
