I want to see if I can open this up to the wider #urbanism community with a question about on #transit #landuse #development.

#Charlotte, NC is evaluating options to redevelop its current #bus terminal; Ground Level, Split Level Up to existing light rail, and Below Grade, the most expensive, and preferred by the developer.

Is filling a city block with busses a good idea? Is placing them below ground inequitable? Is it worth the $$$?

@PhillipBrandon on the last question - it depends on what you get for being underground. If it's a big box with no natural light and very little new amenities, from a transit perspective, I don't think it adds much. I would much prefer to have a ground level busway and subgrade or elevated light rail station.
@andr_w I think the only benefit to the underground (and it isn't to transit), is the remaining opportunity to activate the street level. A full city block, nearly city center.
@PhillipBrandon it is a trade off. I would err always on the side of integrating or elevating the experience of transit riders over development.
