The Man Behind Mastodon, Eugen Rochko, Built It for This Moment

People fleeing Twitter have turned to Eugen Rochko’s alternative. He says social networks can support healthy debate—without any one person in control.

@phatcontroller it must be so tiring answering the same questions over and over again, to journalists who didn’t do their homework.
@sheislaurence like being on user support! You worked with Restart when Janet and Ugo were there?
@phatcontroller Yes indeed! I remember you are/were a trustee, aren't you? I am the one who introduced @Janetgunter to Ugo and saw their (wacky) idea being born on that large dinner table. Time flies! I think I met you in the early 2000s round ComputerAid time?
@sheislaurence @Janetgunter You did a good thing! Nice to meet you here after so long 😊
@phatcontroller @Janetgunter well that's Twitter's opacity for you, I'd been following you on Twitter for 13 years and you never knew it! 😂

@phatcontroller Eugen needs help from other developers, quite urgently actually. It's no wonder that he's tired, he's gonna burn himself up in flames if he continues that path.

His commit history alone speaks books of his rythm. I mean my sleep cycle is broken already, but that man seems to never sleep.

I hope that he gets the chance to turn that around so that he can actually have a deep breath and break for a moment.

@phatcontroller heroic that he is trying to manage such growth on his server!
