Is the media storage going to grow by a gig every day? I'm not even "federated" and my instance is not sending a lot of media out. #MastoAdmin

@jw It looks like posts from remote users that someone on our instance follows gets saved too. But there’s a way to delete remote user cache after 7 days. So growth should slow down after a week. (If customizable I’d make it less than 7 days. I don’t see a reason to cache remote user posts.)

Re: Mastodon Media Storage | Masto.host

Masto.host was built from the ground up to make running a Mastodon instance easy.

@jw The ability to follow hashtags which I hear is part of release 4.0 might also impact similarly once the update is installed.
@jcnewmark Thanks. I'm watching it this time. :)
@jcnewmark @jw Does this mean old favorites would disappear? Or just not be cached and have to be reloaded?
@nix @jcnewmark I think it's just the media cache. It's at 40Gb today. As long as it "flushes", everything should be good. Also, with the 4 update, SUPPOSEDLY you don't even have to shut down, but it's just an update and nothing should be lost. SUPPOSEDLY. I will take a snapshot before.
