Eilean nam Ban, known locally as Seagull Island, is a mile or so out of Kinlochleven on the north side of Loch Leven. Historically, it was used as a meeting point for clan chieftains to settle their differences and more recently as a location for a slightly more adventurous wedding.

@andy_morehouse beautiful image! do you know why it’s called Seagull Island and not by it’s Gaelic name or a translation of it? It’s so far removed from the Gaelic meaning! #nerdquestion
@julie @andy_morehouse was wondering that. Isle of the Women must have a story behind it. There is a similarly named island off the Ross of Mull. Where Columba banished the women apparently!
@geologymull @julie when I did ask locally, the only answer I got was “it’s always been called that in the village”
