🎮 #VideoGamesFinished in 2022

Will reply to this thread every time I "finish" playing a video game this year. That could mean getting to the end of the story it tells, or just getting to a point where I think I've experienced what the game has to offer me.

#1 (2022-01-13) #FINALFANTASYXIVOnline: #Endwalker

As I type this, the ending credits are still rolling. Endwalker went and made me empathize with characters I previously despised, and on top of that introduced or fleshed out a few others for me to love.

Ending? Cathartic.

#2 (2022-02-11) #TheMedium

I'm glad I didn't impulse buy this game. Not 'cause it wasn't a GREAT game, but because it ran devastatingly poorly on my aging PC.

Thankfully, Game Pass also had a streaming alternative.

Excellent puzzle horror!

#3 (2022-02-15) #BoyfriendDungeon

Another Game Pass game! Played through most of it on Valentine's Day, but didn't have time to finish the story until the day after.

Absolutely adored this game, dungeon-crawling and weapon-dating both, and love this hot nerd. Will buy later!

#4 (2022-02-23) #Ghost10

Having left it on my Steam wishlist for way too long, I finally picked up
Unepic Fran's Ghost 1.0 at the end of October 2021 and started playing nearly a month later. Then Endwalker took over.

Not quite the Metroidvania I expected, but a lot of fun!

#5 (2022-02-24) #RevealTheDeep

A short game that has you exploring the SS Eurydice after it sunk to the ocean floor in 1901, carrying a dark mystery.

The structure of the ship changes depending on if it's illuminated by your scuba flashlight or the ship's light sources. Neat!

#6 (2022-03-02) #CeressAndOrea

Cute little RPG Maker game focused on a gay woman, Ceress, as she journeys through a spirit realm to make her way back to her beloved Orea.

Finished in about an hour, as advertised, and was a nice way to spend a part of my evening.

#7 (2022-03-06) #TheButtonWitch

I just realized I have no idea what the "button" in the title is supposed to refer to. I guess Ellen (the witch) is cute as one?

Anyway, RPG Maker adventure game with lots of point-and-clicky puzzles (some of them iffy) and super-cute characters.

#8 (2022-03-09) #SteamWorldDig2

I played the first SteamWorld Dig on my 3DS ages ago, specifically because I was interested in playing the sequel. Now I finally did.

Metroidvania-esque game (extremely linear) with a focus on mining for treasure. You play as a cute robot girl.

#9 (2022-03-16) #Haven

Super cute and chill game about exploring the beautiful vistas of a splintered, alien world as two runaway lovers. (Be gay, do crime!)

Also features cooking, clean-up duties, a JRPG-style combat system, and tons of great dialogue.

#10 (2022-03-26) #PhantasyStarII

Aside from the colorful (but underutilized) characters and nice manga art, this was a strict downgrade from the original Phantasy Star.

Despite the last-second twist, the plot was extremely shallow. Combat was clunky, and dungeons... boring mazes.

#11 (2022-04-05) #KathyRain

Not quite what I expected from the game's aesthetic (including what I'd seen of marketing materials), but that's not a bad thing.

A pretty great adventure game from Clifftop Games with a cool protagonist and a (to me) MOSTLY perfect puzzle difficulty

#11.5 (2022-04-26) #FINALFANTASYXIVOnline: #Endwalker 6.1

"Water, water, froth and foam! ♪"

While I won't count it as a full game, I've decided I'd add the 6.1 story content I finished yesterday to my list. IT WAS SO GOOD!

Back to Chrono Cross soon... maybe?

After taking all my Hand/Land jobs to 90 in FFXIV, I ended up playing... not Chrono Cross... not Chinatown Detective Agency...

#12 (2022-06-10) #OceansHeart

A bit unpolished, but a fun Zelda-like game about a girl who fights pirates while searching for her dad and best friend.

#13 (2022-06-18) #TMNTShreddersRevenge

Been too busy to follow up on my game plans, but I did sit down with some family to play Shredder's Revenge story mode (after briefly trying arcade mode on my own).

Fun game. Also looking forward to Konami's classic TMNT collection.

#14 (2022-07-15) #MidBoss

To be fair, I only finished the game on Quick with infinite lives, but then playing roguelikes "as intended" kind of runs counter to this whole attempt to experience as many games as possible this year.

Fun little game with a cool possession gimmick.

#15 (2022-07-19) #UltraHatDimension

Cute little puzzle game with adorable pixel art and voiced sound effects. 💜

Puzzle difficulty varies a lot, to the point where I sometimes wondered if I found some easier, unintended solutions to certain levels.

Others? Hard as nails.

#16 (2022-05-14) #GrowingUp

I completely forgot about sharing this one, since I played it on my phone (and kinda stayed up until 5 AM finishing my first playthrough).

A fun visual novel-esque life sim with puzzle minigames thrown in as challenges. It's very "one more turn".

#17 (2022-08-01) #AxiomVerge

So I've been in a Metroidvania mood lately (and this was easy to get into on my Switch while moving into a new apartment).

I feel Axiom Verge did a great job evolving and expanding on that OG Giger-inspired Metroid aesthetic. Fantastic game!

#18 (2022-08-04) #AxiomVerge2

I'd intended to hold off on playing the sequel for a while, but instead I ended up speeding through it in a couple of days.

Axiom Verge 2 is superb. Easier than the first one, but also more refined. At game's end, mysteries still remain.

AV3 when?

#19 (2022-08-18) #MyGirlfriendIsAMusician

A short (about 4 hours for me), cute and funny yuri VN that takes place primarily on a concert tour. You and your two love interests are all grown-ass adults with jobs, which can feel like a breath of fresh air.

The DLCs are broken, though?

#20 (2022-09-18) #ArcadeSpiritsTheNewChallengers

Finally had the time! Very funny and heartwarming VN! Not a single non-player character in the main cast I don't adore!

On the romance side: ultra-happy there's a poly route with Jynx and Grace!

Rest in peace, @[email protected]. 💔

#21 (2022-09-21) #ReturnToMonkeyIsland

I'm... not sure what to say about this game, except that it was almost entirely thoroughly enjoyable, and extremely on-brand. The built-in hint book system was a nice touch, too.

I've seen two ending variations. Wonder how many there are...

#22 (2022-09-22) #SuperBernieWorld / #KitsuneZero

I didn't find any of the secret levels (and I haven't a clue where to even begin looking for them), but at least I confirmed the hypothesis that things are automatically better with cute fox girls.

SBW was fun & all, but KZ... 😽👌

#23 (2022-10-30) #PokémonTradingCardGame

These last couple of days I've been playing a version of Pokémon TCG hacked to let you play as Mint -- the female protagonist from the Japan-exclusive sequel.

Short and fun enough, but... sure awfully dictated by coin flips.
