I just saw that an Irish journalist got booted off Mastadon. This is the type of conflict that drives the emotionally exciting narrative experience of using social media. BUT.. do we go feral and deranged about it here? Or will we use our twitter for that? Is Mastadon the office and Twitter is the smoking shed?
I can already see. The feral stuff about this is on twitter. The emotions are already overshadowing the topic. The points based performative combat is there. I don’t think this place rewards that behaviour
And for my own self reflection and personal growth. I do not GIVE A FUCK about a journalists gripes around their suspension. It’s boring. My curiosity is around the theatre of the hostile discourse. The thrilling spectacle of a fight after school and all the horrible feelings that go with it. The self hatred from enjoying it.

@blindboyboatclub as much as i prefer the fediverse to twitter, it's also important to not get too starry-eyed about the platform

there's been a constant pattern over the past few years of black, indigenous, and users of colour being targeted for harassment

not just by "right wing" trolls, but by white "leftists" who don't like their biases and prejudices being challenged because they want to be left to have fun in the playground
