Big news! The Central Coast Regional Plan 2041 in #NSW #Australia has been approved by the Minister, one of two new game-changing regional plans I helped write. A LOT of new things never tried before! For example, for the 1st time, we applied the “15-minute city” concept to 7 different regional contexts, & prioritized real-life follow-thru including OPTIMUM (not minimum) density targets; mandated neighbourhood mixed-use; and strategies for multi-modal transportation for EACH of 7 contexts.
@BrentToderian this is awesome and should be applied everywhere!

@BrentToderian This is great! What are your thoughts about the plan for mixed-use i.e., what would be the goal for the composition of each category of use such as residential, retail, (maybe) commercial, public space, community space?

Was thinking: We may have some variation in building requirements come 2040 - are there any assumptions made about what the typical type and size of dwelling might be by then??

@BrentToderian Thank you Brent, for sharing this. My students will develop ideas on how to combine the central place concept with the 15min city in the seminar tomorrow. I like the distinction between 15min neighbourhood, 30min centre and 90min region. Very helpful for tomorrow's exercise!
@BrentToderian very interested in the concept of optimal density - minimum density is a bar that developers have to meet, what happens with applications that are sub-optimal?
@BrentToderian That’s awesome and right in my backyard. Do you have a link to more info?
@BrentToderian never heard of 90 minute regions or 30 minute strategic centres. Interested to learn more about that.

@BrentToderian

So we are now building apartments in the potholed roads to fill them in?

@BrentToderian
This looks really interesting. Here in Perth (WA), state and local gov are currently considering how to rezone the Roe8/9 Hwy corridor. Our community successfully lobbied, protested (and got arrested) to stop a proposed highway through our suburbs and remnant urban bush and wetlands. The 2017 state election was won on the back of this protest.
Now we are lobbying - and writing submissions - for re zoning and land tenure options that would allow precisely this type of planning.
Any advice? Would you be interested/available in consulting - at state, local or grassroots level?
@BrentToderian Our regional plan says the same thing, yet nothing ever changes in actual planning, zoning, or building. Do you know of a regional plan that actually came true?
@BrentToderian
Where can I find more information?
