Philip Boardman@Jamescoyne because boosts, replies and favourites aren't displayed in the home or local timelines, and no algorithm to increase the visibility, there's a lot less "pile on" effect.

Someone with a big following posts or boosts something interesting or funny. It’s just that boosts don’t show on the Local/Federated feed so “randoms” will never see it “trend”, it’s all followers of followers.
@estherlimtf truly fascinating. As @geordie said, it's not designed for engagement which (imo) makes it a much better/authentic platform
@Jamescoyne @geordie yeah. I was trying to find an example of one that trended to link and I couldn’t find it.
But basically it was a Star Trek/mastodon/meta joke like “how do i get back to the federation timeline”. I assume Star Trek 😝
