@misterprickles It was unfiltered wasn't it? Probably ripe for a fair few diseases if kept or made unhygienically....
@dapperhistorian I've heard tell that "Europeans brewed it, but East Asians boiled it," hence our respective traditions for booze vs tea. But this may be post-hoc justification.
