I jointed mstdn.social thinking it was mastadon.social and I really don't understand the difference. Why do these two things exist?
What is the difference between mstdn and matodon? Or was it just a way to fool the newbies like me?
@zackdavisson It's like a website address. When any part of the stuff before the dot, and stuff after the dot, changes, you end up on a different website. In this case, the different websites are all different instances (servers), managed by different people with their own userbases, but all connected - for example, you're talking with me right now, and I'm on an entirely different instance (mastodon.art)
@zackdavisson The nice thing about mstdn.social is that it has active and good moderation, whereas mastodon.social doesn't, because it's so much bigger (and for other irrelevant reasons that I'm not going to bother you with right now XD). The people who run mstdn.social are lovely, and very on-the-ball with moderation, so there's far less chance of you seeing anything nasty in your feed.
@Curator I think I would prefer the other one then. I'm not particularly interested in moderation.
