New Guy Here Introduction:
I didn't read books as a child, I found them hard work & boring.
Then Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes appeared on TV & this 15-year-old was hooked. I wanted more so I got this book and, without noticing, became a reader.
It wasn't just because of the mystery or the characters, it was that these were SHORT STORIES. I still remember the huge sense of accomplishment after finishing a whole story in a single session - check out the proud tick marks next to each story.
@ChrisCallaghan I used to tick off stories in my bumper Ray Bradbury collection in exactly the same way. Bet loads of boy readers did.
@AndrewDonkin Ah, that's brilliant! Those little ticks tell their own story - whether it's pride, accomplishment or simple enjoyment, they were a crucial part of me becoming a reader.
