Once upon a day of beauty, while constructing conserves fruity
In a jam-pan overflown with sugar sweet and damsons raw
Gathered I your plums nutritious from the ice-box: cold, delicious
And I knew you'd be suspicious but this jelly you'd adore
E'en the gods do grant forgiveness bribed with buttered toast galore
Tea comes with it, furthermore.

@sil New word learned: damsons. Had to look it up. Comes from Damascene. Interesting.
@ppk I didn't know that was the etymology! Damsons are basically small sour plums; they get used a lot for cooking, I believe, although this is not my area of expertise :)

@sil @ppk They're particularly associated with jam, which has a "uniquely deep, mysterious flavour".

Damson jam recipe

The damson season is so short that you can blink and miss it. Making your own damson jam ensures that uniquely deep, mysterious flavour is always on hand.

@charlesroper @sil I don't want mysterious flavours in my jam, thanks so much.
