The genius God Emperor of Twitter has turned off microservices that control 2FA verification. Don't log off if you have 2FA and change back to regular verification through email or text. He doesn't know how the website works. JFC. #Mastodon #birdapp

From what I understand it is only SMS 2fa that's failing, and for some of us the email verification needed for.. archiving.
TOTP & fido2 appear to be working
@Joris Here's an update. It seems that some SMS MFA services are working again. Yes, it was SMS MFA and that's why it was recommended that people switch to email from SMS MFA because SMS MFA, the more common verification that people use was borked, and people were getting locked out of their accounts. https://www.androidauthority.com/twitter-sms-2fa-3234698/
Elon Musk just ended Twitter SMS 2FA (Update: Appears to be back up for some)

If you use Twitter SMS 2FA — which sends you a text to prove who you are when you log in — you probably should add another method.

Ta. Have never tried sms 2fa for all reasons but the dumpster fire looks quite real. Quite a wake up call for all social media
@Joris I'm reading more about it now. It's like he read through a list of microservices, decided they were the problem and turned off SMS MFA without realizing what he did. He also fired the developer who told him what the problem was when he griped publicly on Twitter about it. Then he fired him when someone made a crack about the dev's response. It's bigger than a dumpster fire, it's a dumpster fire planet.
