Just finished a faculty senate meeting where the warning of the "demographic cliff" was sounded. I am skeptical about this talk, given declining spending on higher ed by state governments. Does anyone here have any good counter-data, say re state budget declines per student? I saw one study that said there was an average drop of 13% in state funding per student between 2008-2018. #highered #demographiccliff #criticaluniversitystudies
I'm wondering if it might turn out that when we had even smaller student cohorts in the past (say, Gen-X) state funding was higher than w/growth due to large milennial cohort just b/c of replacement of ft tt faculty with part-time fac and lecturers w/low pay and high teaching loads
