A very nice and simple overview of the currently know #climate impact pathways on human #health. An incredible amount of details behind this figure can the found in the data explorer of The Lancet Countdown on Health and #ClimateChange.

@cir I'm always wondering if we're not underestimating the mental health effects of a fundamentally altered planet. Thanks for posting this!

@andrereichel Yes, this seems very likely. At least, health impacts due to #climatecrisis have been acknowledged as a priority for action programmes.

Why mental health is a priority for action on climate change

Climate change poses serious risks to mental health and well-being, concludes a new WHO policy brief, launched today at the Stockholm+50 conference. The Organization is therefore urging countries to include mental health support in their response to the climate crisis, citing examples where a few pioneering countries have done this effectively. The findings concur with a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published in February this year. The IPPC revealed that rapidly increasing climate change poses a rising threat to mental health and psychosocial well-being; from emotional distress to anxiety, depression, grief, and suicidal behavior.

@cir given that the climate is changing relentlessly, especially now at the moment of the interglacial solstice, this is one of the elements that has shaped people into what they are today.

@cir
Thanks for highlighting. Nice and useful, but I wonder if it's a little too simple.

Not having read the Lancet report yet, the only non-climate effect of fossil fuels shown is air pollution (and it is apparently attributed solely to temperature). What about the 'great #NutrientCollapse'? Or effects of #OceanAcidification or land contamination (eg Niger delta) on food security?
