New blog post: How I (try to) keep up with learning in machine learning.https://vickiboykis.com/2022/11/10/how-i-learn-machine-learning/

The post is pretty meaty but the tl;dr is:

1. Learn broadly
2. Then narrow your focus and learn deeply
3. Don’t be afraid to use multiple resources to learn the same concept from different angles
4. Do projects to reinforce your learning

How I learn machine learning

1. Learn broadly. 2. Learn deeply. 3. Don't be afraid to re-learn

@vicki thanks for writing this. I find it very helpful. Can you tell us more about the LinkedIn feed miracle?

nit picking: you wrote binary search tree when it should be a binary tree :P

@swaroop Ah thanks! I meant to do BST but the example clearly does not match :D.

Re: Linkedin - I started aggressively liking only content that was relevant around ML and following people who I know on Twitter share papers. It took a long time of deliberate pruning for their model to pick up the signal.

@vicki got it! also boringml.com looks cool! i noticed is_set php analysis got duplicated into Java. I will stop finding mistakes now LOL
@swaroop Haha yeah it's been a while since I've done some cleanup, that site definitely needs some love. Thanks for finding it! :)
@vicki This is an amazing and very helpful post! Thank you! I particularly appreciate the link for how to read AI research papers, and the photo of your stack of books!
@vicki This was excellent, I read the entire thing and many of the links contained within! Very inspiring to see your learning process, it gives me confidence in my own programming journey & career transition πŸ€“
@flupple cheers! Good luck πŸš€
