About an hour ago there was an explosion in İstiklal Street, #Istanbul. According to the early information and images there were several casualties and likely a bomb dropped in a bag.

But right now we can’t have more information because government media watchdog banned any news about it and according to my OONI Probe test results from couple mins ago, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube access is blocked in #Turkey.

Right now my Twitter app loads tweet texts but no luck with video or images. YouTube is crazy slow.

Based on the tests I made from both my home internet and mobile, it’s clear that once again they’re bandwidth throttle all major social media and messaging services in Turkey.

If they follow the same path, it’ll stay that way for a while, usually when they are ready to make an official statement. But in the meantime, people will start spreading wild conspiracy theories.

Additional test results are also coming. https://mastodon.social/@netblocks/109337124451646301
Blocking continues. This is how YouTube looks like on our Xbox.

@ahmetasabanci is there any rational speculstion yet? I.e. based on possible use of female bomber, type of explosive, etc?

We all know who the most convenient perpetrators would be from a gov't perspective, I think, but wouldn't it be nice if there was some concrete evidence in...

@Jradin afaik there’s almost no information about the details, so speculation is really hard right now. Of course everyone shares some theories but all of them based on their emotional and political perspective.
@ahmetasabanci is the Govt tries to ban the media?
@Kanagasubramaniandotnet not like a full ban but they’ve developed a really strong control over both traditional and online media. Of course there’s a lot of independent ones but they have almost total control over mainstream media and online platforms.
