Hello Mastodon! This is an #introduction. I’m a writer (book: Spare Parts, which is a history of transplant surgery from the sixteenth century to the present day (yes, they did transplants back then!) Published by Penguin in the UK and Australia, and St Martin’s in North America. Before this, I was a film maker. Actually, I still am, working mostly with museums, universities and healthcare institutions. I’m so excited to learn about and connect with you all!
@Pwcraddock Your book sounds fascinating! I remember being quite engrossed in lessons on the legality and often illegality of human dissection during the Middle Ages. I think my son's girlfriend who was studying to be a medical artist and is now a nursing student would find your book a great read. Looks like it would be a good Christmas present for one of us =)
@maestrmuti thanks so much — how lovely to read! I find medical artists fascinating. There’s a fascinating story behind every one of them!
@Pwcraddock There was a Paul Craddock who I worked with at Yates’s in Leeds for a bit, 20-odd years ago!
@JayneE_R There seem to be plenty of us! There’s also a model Paul Craddock in California, and a metal-expert Paul Craddock at the British Museum!
@Pwcraddock Instance of the Fingerpost -- great book. Tranfusions, though, not transplants.
@OliverC transfusions ARE transplants, I would say! Especially in the era An Instance of the Fingerpost was set, when transfusions were often thought of as personality/soul/humour/trait transplants!
@Pwcraddock Just added your book to my 'To Buy' list. 👍
