my number one tip for writing more often is to write on your phone too. incorporating my phone into my routine was huge for me. i’m often unwell and i deal with a chronic pain level and not having to be at my computer every time i write has made a huge difference. plus getting 1k words down while in a bath feels spectacular.
@thelorewood I’m not going to deny I find writing on my phone a little bit of a pain…how do you get over that?
@Xercies i think different things will work for different people for sure so i wouldn’t stress, do what feels right. for me i use word on mobile and i try to pick it up and put it down in bursts, returning to my computer on the synced file when i don’t want to use the app anymore, which feels really different than the way i usually write, which is more steady and constant. i know some people who like to use dictation to get things down without having to mess with the app interface too.
@thelorewood phone writing is a revelation! You can sync scrivener across devices so I can draft on the fly and it doesn’t feel as loaded or formal as sitting down at my laptop - so good!
@KieraLesley totally agree that it feels less loaded!
@thelorewood If you don't mind me asking - what keyboard are you using for that? Thats the only hurdle i'm finding to get a lot of words down on mobile, constant autoincorrect is a *drain* for me. I'm testing them all but i can't seem to find one that goes as fast as my brain does lol.
@bbchapman i just use the apple keyboard and i totally agree it isn’t great, that’s the main hurdle for me. i have to carefully check what i draft on phone because i find the weirdest errors. and it’s absolutely not as fast as my brain! i often find myself like starting on phone and then when i pick up the pace reaching for my computer to get things out faster.
@thelorewood yeah thats me as well - certain things just need to be done on a computer but it's just so uncomfy. Still looking for the ultimate setup after all these years. Technology is great and all but when will it actually just work? Haha
@thelorewood Writing on my phone has been such a game changer. Being able to make notes whenever and wherever I am is huge. It's become one of my most important writing tools.
@thelorewood Works well for me with Apple Notes.
@thelorewood me too! I write in the notes app and then I email it to myself to insert into the larger document. Works a treat. And it lets me write at odd times or whenever inspiration decides to appear 😊
@thelorewood Yes! I use my phone as well but only for poetry (which I noodle with in my notes app) or jotting down quick ideas for longer pieces when inspiration strikes. I have never tried writing in the bath though. Putting that on my todo list!
@thelorewood totally agree! Is how I sarted, needed a creative hobby that I could do on my phone away from my desk workstation (so it doesn't feel like work) and I started doodling, worldbuilding, and writing on my Note smartphone. Now I get to write from anywhere.
@thelorewood I've never met anyone else who writes in the bath. I get so much work done there!
@Mariella lmao same! something about it really helps my focus.
