Plan to do a Medium post tomorrow on a dangerous path I am seeing the autistic community go.

More and more, I am seeing autistic people call for the reform of police to have better training and treat them more respectfully.

I am screaming at this because I know this will fail. We have already see on this approach fail time and time again because the problem isn't lack of training, it's embedded white supremacy and worse.

I am mad because I know that if I point out the link between the ableism and racism in the police is white supremacy that most autistic people are going to ignore me.

The worst part is going down this ineffective approach is going to lead to more autistic people getting hurt by police. Harm that could prevented by abolishing the police and creating spaces for people to be accepted. Police departments do not need any more money! A 1 off training isn't going to fix the fact that most police officers fundamentally dehumanize everyone.

Anyways, ACAB. I will post the link tomorrow.

@MerlinJStar

I wonder if this could be related to the "girl boss" type neurodiversity advocacy, which focuses on how neurodivergent people can be successful, and useful to employers while ignoring autistic people people who can't work and centering autistic people who are skilled maskers and only need a little accommodation.

I think there is some liberalization going on as neurodiversity becomes more main stream. I think this liberalization should be countered.

ACAB.

@MerlinJStar

Police harm disabled people not because police don’t know how to do their jobs, but precisely because harming disabled people IS their job.

Same for social workers and school employees.
