@adamdavidson I think what's confusing is that dodging a bullet (or in this case many bullets) is a source of relief and an encouraging sign but any sense of hope can only be short lived because the ongoing “bullets” of the larger anti-democratic movement will keep coming.

In short, the incentive structure on the right—with or without Trumpism—will continue to encourage a range of anti-democratic efforts for years (decades?) to come and eventually some "bullets" won't be dodged.

@Democracylover @adamdavidson I agree it's a grim prognosis in the short run but consistent with the longer history of anti-democratic politics in America (e.g., segregation). I also take heart that we defeated Jim Crow once and, with time, can defeat the ethno-nationalist faction again.

Until we get rid of the electoral college and uneven senate apportionment we are not really living in a democracy.
So we will ride this knife edge.
Probably until the end of the nation.
