There is a learning curve here, it's not as easy to find folks on other servers.
AFAIK it's a side effect of the way the #Fediverse works.
I think it's important to understand that this place is not Twitter, or a "replacement" for Twitter. It's something else that is similar, but intentionally different. And that's a good thing to me.

Smaller communities
Different norms
Less toxic BS
Post topics
Be open to the differences and enjoy this new space

That's simply a nature of the infancy & smaller userbase. No platform can control human behavior.

IMHO, the only difference between #Twitter & #Mastodon to that respect is the primary color of the logo.

No different from a small biz being acquired & people complaining that it lost its culture. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
