@SourJ Over the years here, I've reported (using the block & report option sends a report to our instance admins) hundreds of spammers & scammers. All have been removed.
Things may get worse as more focus turns to Masto in general but hopefully the community will flag stuff & it will get removed to keep Local pleasant for all.

@shivoa thanks for the info seems pretty clean I appreciate your service! Glad to see that they have been banned. Twitter is full of them my inbox has 100+ messages from bots.

@SourJ All thanks go to the instance owners/admins for acting on reports.
The only slightly trickier issue is when you get spam from other instances (our instance owner can stop relaying messages either from individual users or the entire instance if it becomes an unmanaged spam farm but can't delete those accounts). Your bans should protect against inbox spam (and you also have the ability to block entire instances yourself if you find lots of spam coming from one instance).

@shivoa @SourJ the way you can tailor your experience on Mastodon, and strong focus on community led servers makes me feel confident that kind of crap will be killed with fire if it appears. Twitter et al breed this kind of apathy because you just kind of exist on the back of colossal beast and go where it takes you. Still, lets all get some molotovs ready. 🔥

@SourJ Yeah twitter became nigh unusable with all the crypto spam, plus all my favorite feed hashtags just got so pollluted even after using tweetdeck and blocking bad tags. It just became unusable. Which is a shame because having good pixelart and gamedev feeds was one of the great things about using twitter.

@Ikkir so true I got super annoyed of being tagged even fell for one of the scams once. NFTs have a thing called rugs where they make it look great then once you buy they pull the rug from under you and run off with the money. I only lost $70 but I'll never look at a nft again.

@SourJ Agh the nft thing is just the worst. Massive art and gamedev pollution from just scams and it just gets worse and worse.

They will, eventually I guess but from what I've seen so far, the way mastodon works, it's gonna be easy to just block/block them on an instance I guess
