One of the things that turned me off to that other place a few years ago was when I noticed the trend to talk less about your life, and more about whatever outraged you.

I see more then a few people have brought that bad habit over here recently. I'm not saying it didn't exist here before, it's just increased at a notable rate.

So let's boost what's going on in people lives. Boost the foodie pics. Boost the messy living room pics. Boost the Costco selfie.

Let's keep Mastodon social.

@Mrfunkedude I think we witnessed recently with the woman who said she likes to drink coffee in the morning with her partner that the internet doesn’t want to hear about the good stuff. It comes across as bragging for some (most? for some reason) and the fallout from that is terrifying, so people tend to complain, which gets more response as people relate more, rather than talk about the good stuff & that’s so tragic.

I’d love to talk more about the happy/good stuff.

(Feel free to ignore if my comment is an intrusion.) Your comments remind me of the Buddhist ideal of "mudita" or appreciative joy, or in this case the lack thereof. That is, cultivating the quality of being happy for other people when they are happy. As opposed to feeling resentment over someone seemingly being more "successful"/happy. We've been taught to compete against each other as if joy were a limited resource, when really joy grows when shared.
