Saying good morning with a #painting. Carrick-on-Shannon. I visit this spot most years but the painting came out of my time when I was on a bicycle, stopped on the bridge just looking and absorbing this corner of #Ireland, which is usually very lively, even if I did leave people and cars out.

@eolai terrific pic... Is it in acrylics? The colours are so vibrant. I'm a #watercolour man.. Can't get on with acrylics, but not tried much.

@greenwayfoods Yes, acrylics. My own limited use of watercolours is primarily in sketching with some mixed media work also. Have been using acrylics for so long now - like 40 years - I use them for their own properties and don't try to replicate those of oil or watercolours. Suspect oils would be even more vibrant but I need to spend more time with them. The acrylics can dull on drying, but given my typical palette that's probably not a bad thing.

@eolai I've only been painting for around 18 months, and have come to really like watercolour.. I'm no draughtsman, but don't let that stop me. I have some acrylics, but found them on a quick try to be awkward to blend etc compared to watercolours, and wasn't fond of the end result... I guess it's practice, as with everything..

@greenwayfoods Yep, they're very different animals. Watercolours are amazing, what you can do with water. Acrylics can be quite challenging, the quick drying really impacting ability to blend, among other things. I recall when I was younger having all sorts of problems trying to handle them and then eventually I got to grips with it, but I couldn't tell you how - other than a lot of practice.

@eolai I bought some watercolour inks recently, they're good fun, amazing colours, but not sure yet how I can work them into pics... YT is very useful

@greenwayfoods It's a great resource alright. Especially with there being such a variety of media to work in today. 20 years ago I was reading notes on a forum hoping someone would note about this material or that, whereas now you can find on YT people you trust and just watch them as they illustrate their explanation.

@eolai the only thing that gets to me is some folk there just push Patreon all the time... I understand that people have to live, and I'm fortunate that I've retired, house paid for etc., but it grates how often its heard. Others offer terrific video instruction or advice for no cost at all... I've learned more for these people than those that are always pushing the £££, seems also that those offering for free come across as nicer people, much like here really!
