So, still haven't started Ragnarök (eyeballing tomorrow or Sunday, depending on when i cook a Rabbit stew). But I've been dipping in and out of Gotham Knights. I find the game really weird, very tonally and narratively disjointed. Anyone else give it a whirl?
@AdamSessler I mostly hold out until a game is on Gamepass. It's great not waisting money on stuff that ends up being crap, so I am fickle on what I spend money on. Once it was confirmed as 30 fps only on console it was a hard pass as a paid title.
@umbrae the 30 FPS isn't much of an issue (though the cutscenes have inexplicable framerate problems) because the combat is so clearly designed around it just feels like a lot oof interesting ideas that don't work that well with each other. It's kinda the perfect gamepass game in that, it's fascinating to examine why it doesn't work better.
@AdamSessler plan on waiting for its to drop into a $30 used range until i pick it up or maybe try Gamefly. I heard ify things about it and considering Arkham games where they holy grail of Batman games, I didnt want it to mess up my love for them.
@AdamSessler Yeah Gotham Knights is very interesting I wish it was more polished. It has good ideas with coop but it does feel disjointed a bit. I do love how it kinda feels like you're in an episode of a Batman tv show , more like you feel like a sidekick of Batman, which is exactly how it should be. This needed more time in the oven definitely.
@Jest24 you know if they framed like a TV show (or comic book arc) a la Alan Wake, it could work. Its just the abrupt lurch from Ras Al Ghul to Harley Quinn, I can't remember why i'm doing anything
@AdamSessler Hassenfeffer?!? Maybe a side of spatzle?
@AdamSessler I hope you dig Ragnarok, man. I’ve had a good time with it so far.
@AdamSessler putting off playing it myself. Definitely voluntary, and not because my dog ate my controller…

@AdamSessler It is such a strange game. Top to bottom, every decision feels confusing, and not just because of the bugs. It's so big, yet so empty, narratively slight, starved for villains and side quests of substance – and above all, repetitive. Splintering all of Batman's abilities into quarters for four different characters means none of them feel fully competent.

And yet, playing with a friend it was not unenjoyable, in a "this game is so infuriatingly dumb" kind of way. I'd love to know if it was a full "Avengers" style GaaS they then noped out of after that game's underwhelmed reception.

@nshady you hit the nail on the head in your description. I don't think it was ever a Gaas because it's such a financial investment on the back end that (like Avengers) you don't abandon it no matter what a mess it is. but why the felt the need to push the sidekicks rather than the more reliable Batman himself. There's no other equitable push from DC/Warners with the characters...its just so weird.

@AdamSessler Yeah, that makes sense re: GaaS. I don't mind the idea of playing as the bat family – and I appreciate some character notes, like making Nightwing canonically bi.(and on the whole it's very LGBT friendly, which is cool.)

But they start from such an odd place – these are four independent heroes who have been heroes for years, yet are actually incompetent? You can play as Batgirl, with a cape on, for hours, before she realises she could use that to fly too?? I won't talk endgame but they make even odder choices towards the end. A fascinating mess.

@AdamSessler there was a spouse of a guest at my wedding a few years ago that hinted he was involved with “a new Arkham game.” It doesn’t seem as if that panned out…
What I’ve seen of Gotham Knights just makes me want to go play Arkham City and Knight again. The problem with all these new AAA games is the when the classics are infinitely replayable, you need to produce a product that actually feels next gen and innovative. Still waiting for that this gen…
@AdamSessler I grabbed it and actually enjoy it. For me it's a good throw on run around beat some people up explore game. It's definitely not perfect but I feel there's a good idea with this game that could work and be great if it was just tweaked. O and if I would of paid that 70 dollar release day price point I would of been pissed but I had gotten it at a more reasonable 40.

@AdamSessler I haven’t picked it up, but wouldn’t mind checking it out eventually. I’m currently digging into Beyond Good and Evil for the first time and it’s been fascinating.

Also - I don’t know how regularly you use this site but you’re among the first people I thought to follow.

What are you playing these days?
