From the creator of Mastodon: “People who are arriving now have as much right to be here and bring their own culture as the ones who came before them.” That's a very generous and welcoming outlook! Makes me even happier to be here.

@smach that’s one point of view. I don’t think any one individual is the authority here, and some longtime Mastodon users (so I gather) don’t necessarily hold positive views of said individual. I hope we can continue to be sensitive to those got here before us.
@smach There are lots of good people here. @Gargron is one of the best and we all owe him for the great work he has done and continues to do.
@graphy Agree! (Why I donated to Mastodon on Patreon. )

@smach Yes, a lot of very bossy and rude people greeted the BirdSite Diaspora, but the creator is not such a person.

Is it not remarkable how bossy and rude people were the ones complaining so much about what they considered rudeness? They could have been polite, but NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! :)

@chemoelectric Here at Fosstodon, I have to say everyone I’ve encountered has been welcoming and nice. (I believe there have been flare-ups about things like CWs elsewhere. I expect and hope people will re-find communities with the culture they enjoy and that will settle down.)
@smach A lot of it has come, I think, from disabled or chronically people (of which I am both). Such folk often, somewhat understandably, have a chip on their shoulder. Especially as the illness is often a psychiatric one (as is part of what’s wrong with me).
@smach That’s a fancy way for me to say that their rudeness is a psychiatric symptom. :) So it should be tolerated.

@smach Within reason.

(I’m a severe case of obsessive-compulsive disorder.)

@chemoelectric Haven’t personally witnessed anything unpleasant, but will keep that in mind!
