learning curve here: This dude followed me and I was going to follow him back and I get this prompt to login. Can I not follow him from this server? This is actually the second or third time I've run across this. Someone help a n00b out?

@chrisarter

I just keep my own server (noc.social) open on another tab. Click the button to copy the URL, and then you can switch back to your own server's tab, and paste it into your own Search bar. Then you'll see that user on your server, and can click follow.

It is...a suboptimal experience that I'm willing to deal with as a techy user, but seems likely to annoy first-timers. I saw someone posted a Chrome extension that may smooth this process out a bit?

@FilmWonk Oh duh, it's literally right there lol. Thank you 🙌

@chrisarter

Oddly enough I got an experience on your server that flowed a bit more easily - prompted me to enter my handle (which autocompleted after doing it once for another user), and then it redirected me to a follow widget to follow you from my server.

Extra paste operation, but otherwise just two clicks.

Maybe different servers do this differently, version-dependent?

@FilmWonk @chrisarter This feels like a better option to me. I've been fighting trying to follow @marcelpociot and @Mattstauffer as they are on other servers. Copied the link and then pasted into the BROWSERS search (address) bar. Was a never ending circle, got annoyed. Now I see my error and what *should* be done.

Did realize that you can use `https://phpc.social/web/@Mattstauffer@mastodon.social` to follow users from other servers too.

@marcelpociot @chrisarter @FilmWonk @tfevens weird. I’m using “Metatext” iOS app and there’s a follow button on it that just works.
@Mattstauffer @marcelpociot @chrisarter @FilmWonk Seems to me that's the way it *should* work.
