I have amazing news to share. Tomorrow I have an appointment to look at typewriters. Lovingly refurbished vintage typewriters. My life has been leading to this moment.

Will I buy one? Perhaps. Will I ask a lot of questions and try as many as I can? Definitely.

@emogene You will love a book set by a friend of mine that I've been editing and helping to produce—the entire history of keyboards, lovingly illustrated with photos and other materials. Coming next year!

@emogene I have like eight! They can be cheaply acquired from eBay or Craigslist and restored to working condition, if you like tinkering and have the ventilation to deal with chemically dissolving away all the collected dust and hardened grease.

@emogene great choice! The SM has impressive engineering. I got a wide carriage SM4 and had not used carriage (rather than basket) shift. Takes getting used to but the action is smooth. I lucked into an SF and if you want something you can carry easily it is pretty sweet.
