The fun thing about the mastodon migration while having ADHD is that I keep seeing people on my Twitter timeline announce their mastodon @ and I dutifully follow them while having exactly zero idea who they are or why I ever followed them in the first place.
That information has long since been lost.
(I know about the automated tools, I just haven't had any time near a Real Computer to use them yet)
And I know about the notes field. It's a great feature, one I've wished for on Twitter, and I fully intend to use it someday.
But when I have no idea who these people are, I have no idea what to put there.

@Foone Ask us - maybe we can help. Like for the first one, put:

"You know, he was that guy at... Oh you know the place. And d'you remember what he was wearing!?"

@Foone Oh yeah, saw that here and just....why didn't Twitter have this?
@Foone I wonder if there's a way to get some client to prominently show new posts with introductions hashtag from followees that have empty notes (or to have a view that shows only such).
@Foone If you followed them once though, it probably makes sense to do it again.
@ocdtrekkie yeah that's the general guideline I've been following so far
@Foone Right now I'm operating under a "this person seems like they could enrich my timeline" scheme, which is exactly what I did with Twitter in 2009 but sources from vastly different circles.

@Foone oh, then you should follow me because I'm your best friend.

Don't you remember me?

What about all the good times we had together?

@Foone At least your new follows here you can set notes for!

@Foone

Have you seen that mastodon has a "notes" feature on other people's profiles? If you do remember why you followed somebody, you can add it as a note to remind yourself later. In theory these are private! (Or, as private as anything on somebody else's computer can be.)

(Apologies if you already knew)

@Foone I see a "notes" field here (when you're looking at a profile) that I assume is private to you so you can tell yourself that kind of info.  💯
@Foone I have basically wanted this feature for LinkedIn and Twitter both because “whotf are you and why am I polluting my feed with your shitty opinions?” has been a regular thought of mine.
