"cure is simple," says the doctor. "go to the desert. see a statue of Ozymandias, King of Kings. look upon his Works, ye Mighty, and Despair. that should cheer you up."

"but doctor!" cried the shattered visage with sneer of cold command, half-sunk in the sand near vast and trunkless legs of stone,

@jacethechicken this is precisely targeted to just fuck me right up
@jacethechicken i like the implication that ozymandias *is* a statue, rather than a guy who had statues of him made
@jacethechicken i haven't boosted this? i remember this post and thought for sure i boosted it, it rules
@monorail its very dear to my heart,, the way I quoted parts of the poem to describe who the "patient" is still makes me laugh
@jacethechicken It's nicely written. It make me think of Borges and Lovecraft for some reason

@jacethechicken Love this!

I hope this lands in the spirit intended - I don’t want to β€œwell actually” you - but did you know it’s actually β€œlook *on* my works” and not β€œupon”!

Otherwise you break the iambic pentameter - and this is one of the most common misquotings!

(I always did this myself until I repeated it lots and got the rhythm stuck in my head!)
