Those of us migrating from #Twitter (like me) should read this article. I've been here a few days, and have already come to the realization that #Mastodon is an entirely different ecosystem. The worst we can do is treat it as Twitter 2.0.

This is a special community worth preserving. Some of the features that might strike the Twitter user as archaic were designed purposely to protect people over here. Let's try to respect the existing culture, not change it. 👇

Home invasion - Mastodon's Eternal September begins

The fediverse is dealing with a huge wave of Twitter people bringing toxic ideas with them.

@DrLindseyFitzharris I got as far as ‘The Twitter people believe in the same fantasy of a "public square" as the person they are allegedly fleeing. Like fourteenth century Europeans, they bring the contagion with them as they flee’
Then gave up on their tribalistic and divisive nonsense. In fact reactionary nonsense. Welcome people, explain calmly, have patience. People are people.
@ob1ccfc I get what you're saying. I did find some useful bits in that article though. And I always appreciate a medical history analogy! 😂
@DrLindseyFitzharris yes I absolutely found some of it enlightening. But I’ve seen quite a lot of the little Englander attitude on here to ‘newcomers’. I don’t like seeing that for obvious reasons. And that quote is over the edge to me.
@DrLindseyFitzharris I do despair how tribal people are, including in principle more liberal and tolerant people. Is it ‘the human condition’? I sincerely hope not….
Have a nice evening👍🏻
